About Us

The West Australian Underwater Photographic Society (WAUPS) is a non-profit organisation which was established and incorporated in January, 1984. The aims of the Society are:

To promote an improvement of underwater photography amongst it's members
To promote underwater photography in the community
To encourage an understanding and preservation of the marine environment
To promote an exchange of skills and ideas from within the society and from external bodies
To have fun and enjoy socialising, diving and photography

To achieve these objectives, WAUPS holds regular monthly meetings where members, guest speakers and visitors exchange ideas and information. The topics include practical and theoretical sessions in photography (for both the novice and experienced photographer), marine biology lectures, slide presentations of dive areas and trips, competitions and evaluation of photographs and films and in fact anything that may be of interest to photographic divers.

Other activities include dive outings, underwater and land photographic competitions and social events. The distribution of a bi-monthly newsletter and regular email updates keeps members up to date with the society's activities, forthcoming national and international competitions, technical information and local news.

A club library and property loan/hire service is available to members; Equipment includes slide projectors and screen, light box, duplication and audio visual equipment. Also a photographic index is continually being expanded to aid in the identification of marine life, and to supply slides for presentations, posters, calendars and identification books.
